Shaffer to Drive Number 36 Scion tC Touring Car at World Challenge VIR Event
DG-Spec Scion Team Adds Greg Shaffer to Potent Driver Roster
TORRANCE, Calif. — In the midst of another historic season, the DG-Spec World Challenge Scion team has added experienced driver Greg Shaffer to its already impressive roster of drivers. Shaffer will pilot the number 36 DG-Spec Scion tC Touring Car at rounds 10 and 11 at Virginia International Raceway in just a couple of weeks. Shaffer most recently drove the Irish Mike’s VW Jettas in World Challenge and Grand-Am competition.
“We’re all really excited to have Greg on board,” said team owner Dan Gardner. “He was quite fast at Mosport in the Jetta, and we think he’ll take well to our Scion, which is similar in some ways. That said, we know he’ll become a true Scion believer after the event!”
With Shaffer at the wheel, the number 36 car will be looking to capture more team points. The car currently sits in third place, a stone’s throw away from the second place Mazda. Shaffer joins Dan Gardner and Tom Lepper as a driver contributing to the team championship for DG-Spec in the 36 car.
“I can’t wait to drive the DG-Spec Scion,” said Shaffer. “They’re obviously the cars to beat in Touring Car this year, and it will be exciting to see what they’re all about. VIR is my home track, so I’m looking to defend my turf here in Virginia. It’s exciting to be able to jump in mid-season and still contribute toward the team championship. I’m just pumped to be with the team for this event.”
Rounds 10 and 11 of the World Challenge series will take place on September 10-12. Both of the weekend’s races can be viewed through live timing and scoring at www.world-challenge.com. Rounds 8 and 9 at Mid-Ohio will be broadcast on the Versus Network on Saturday, August 28 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern. Twenty-four hours later the program can be viewed online at www.world-challengetv.com.

Each race features thrilling standing starts, adrenaline filled door-to-door action, and top-notch drivers. Drivers pilot cars from the world's most popular manufacturers, featuring race-prepped versions of the cars we drive on the streets! The World Challenge is sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing and races at North America's premier road and temporary street courses.
DG Spec is a line of parts designed and endorsed by National Champion Scion road racer Dan Gardner. Gardner draws up the specifications for the parts himself. The parts are then tested and proven on the track. The goal of DG Spec is to provide enthusiasts with parts that have been developed on the track and that have significant performance advantages at an honest price. Parts are offered either in hardcore track trim, identical to what Gardner and his team race with, or in Gardner-specified standards more appropriate for enthusiast use on the street. www.DanGardnerSpec.com
STILLEN Stage 1 Performance Parts Upgrades for Nissan R35 GT-R
The R35 Nissan GT-R is a very capable car, stock. From 2009-2011 magazines and owners have found: 11 second quarter mile times, 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. 193 mph top speeds. 7:26:7 at Nurburgring. 1:56.9 at Buttonwillow. 1:19.7 on the Top Gear test track. No matter what you drive, those times are quick. Quick, but we can do better.
STILLEN Stage 1 Package takes your standard Nissan GT-R VR38DETT and increases horsepower and torque over 100 whp, and 130 ft-lbs. Not only do you have impressive horsepower gains, the parts weigh 25 lbs less than stock parts.
- STILLEN 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust
- STILLEN 304 Stainless Steel Y-Pipe
- K & N Replacement Air Filter
- Cobb Accessport
The engine performance is often the first, and easiest thing for owners to upgrade, but there are other areas of the car that can be improved upon.
Brakes: AP Racing Curved Vane Rotor Upgrade
The factory Brembo brakes are adequate for a street car, but crack around the cross drilled holes. A very popular upgrade is the AP Racing J-hooks, or Slotted rotors. They are less expensive than the factory rotors, and owners report them lasting three times as long as the Brembo rotors.
Suspension: STILLEN Adjustable Sway Bars with Endlinks
Features:
• 3-Way Adjustable Front Bar - 20-38% Stiffer
• 5-Way Adjustable Rear Bar - 67-108% Stiffer
• Adjustable Sway-Bar End Links
• Poly-Urethane Bushings
• DOM Steel Construction – High Tensile Strength
• Silver Powder Coated Finish – Maintains Appearance and Protects
With the engine, brake, and suspension addressed, go out and improve on those 0-60, 1/4 mile, and track times. When you are ready for more, there is much more available from Penske 2 way adjustable coil overs, to Carbon Ceramic Brake upgrades, to turbo, and engine upgrades. Check the STILLEN catalog for a few of the performance parts available for the Nissan GTR.

VideosMercedes Arrow Is A Lightweight Two-Seater Vehicle Gives You The Feeling Of Sliding With A Bobsleigh
Mercedes Arrow has been designed to draw a comparison with other recreational vehicles such as motorcycles, jetskis or personalized aircraft. This stunning vehicle gives its passengers the ride of their life. The bobsleigh shaped body, the lightweight materials and the sporty look enable it to shoot through heavy traffic like an arrow from a bow. This experience can only be enjoyed by two passengers, their seats are placed one in front of another. One of the stunning features this futuristic car has, is that it combines TANDEM with MAGLEV technology to take sharp corners. This innovative feature allows the body of the car to tilt left and right when the car is taking corners, thus minimizing the wheels tilt angle. There is an almost non-existing chance for the vehicle to slide out of control. Due to the slim body, the wheels cover the same space of tarmac, just as a contemporary car, eliminating the risk of the car flipping over. The designer, Felipe Palermo, found inspiration in the old Silver Arrows, the SLR McLaren and the 1954 Gull-Wing.
Designer : Felipe Nogueria Palermo
The whole design and idea put this concept automotive in a near future, where people won’t be using cars anymore. A future where the whole transport itself will be based on rail systems. Felipe’s Arrow vehicle is designed for fun in the weekends, a recreational vehicle. The air intake placed in the rear of the car, over the last passenger, reminds us that the whole vehicle is based on Mercedes’ racing history and its super-cars. The airintake is also a starting point for the side bars, which strengthens the body and hold between them a small wind shield in front of the driver. Mercedes Arrow will be equipped with the next generation tire technology. They will have the ability to never wear out, the driver will be able to re-inject them with rubber and take the car for a spin, again. Felipe Palermo has applied everything he has learned at the IED, where he graduated in Car Design in 2007. He also has a post degree in Transportation Design and Industrial Design at FAAP, and is currently working at Mercedes-Benz Design Studio in Brazil.

A.B. 1740 : Specialty Constructed Vehicles : California
As many of you have been reading about and hearing about the past few months, yesterday was the senate vote for Assembly Bill 1740 – the bill brought forth by assemblyman Kevin Jeffries relating to increasing the number of annual kit car registrations from 500 to 750 in the state of California. The bill was defeated. We received the following note from assemblyman Jeffries office explaining the defeat and what’s next.
Goodguys would like to thank everyone who rallied behind this bill and took the time to call, fax, write and e-mail California assembly members in support of this bill and our beloved hobby and industry. We will keep you posted on any new bills or developments through the year. Here is the note from Jeffries’ office:
Yesterday, AB 1740 (Jeffries), relating to increasing the number of annual kit car registrations from 500 to 750, failed on a party line vote, 3-5. Three Republicans, Vice-Chair Bob Huff (Diamond Bar), Tom Harman (Huntington Beach), and Roy Ashburn (Bakersfield) voted in favor of the measure. Five Democrats, Chair Alan Lowenthal (Long Beach), Christine Kehoe (San Diego), Fran Pavley (Santa Monica), Mark DeSaulnier (Walnut Creek) and Joe Simitian (San Jose) voted against the bill.
Assemblyman Jeffries, using arguments compiled from many in the kit car community, cited the fact that these 250 additional kit cars were a minuscule amount of cars compared to the nearly 23 million registered cars in California. Other witnesses from the community worked to debunk the Democratic assumption that there is a ‘typical’ kit car; these witnesses clearly explained that cars range in price from $10,000 to well in excess of that. The witnesses expressed the views of many- that, as a hobby, kit cars are more works of art, and can not be defined as ‘typical’ by any means.
In committee, Chairman Lowenthal suggested that instead of increasing the limit to 750, kit cars could simply be retrofitted with modern emissions controls or use a modern ‘green’ engine developed by General Motors. The California Air Pollution Control Officers Association cited California Air Resources Board (CARB) studies that claimed that the ‘typical’ kit car polluted 200 times more than a regular 2005 model year car. The representative from CARB cited their ‘statistics’ claiming that most of the recent cars registered under the SB 100 exemptions were high polluting, large model engines. Senator Kehoe, also citing the fact that retro fits and emissions controls were available for kit cars, announced that she would be unable to support AB 1740.
Unfortunately, this negative vote in the Senate Transportation Committee marks the end of the road for this bill. With the bill 2 votes short of passage and no Democratic Senators willing to vote for the bill (or suggest any amendments that would allow them to vote for the bill) AB 1740 will not advance any further this year. Assemblyman Jeffries is committed to working on this issue again next year- whether the bill takes a form similar to this or something a bit different.
I personally want to thank each of you who have invested so much time and energy in this bill. AB 1740 would not have advanced this far without your dedicated hard work and outstanding perseverance. Many of you gathered signed letters, made phone calls and contacted elected officials. Thank you for your efforts and passion for your hobby.
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact me with any bill ideas for the next legislative cycle, or if you have any questions about the legislative process. Thank you again for your outstanding efforts.

Classy Car Models
But girls also like cars, but they often do not like car show models. What girls do like (generally and in addition to cars) are clothes and style, thus classy car models give the female readers something to enjoy as well.
This way everyone wins! Except me, the screening process for this is hell on my eyes.
